Oil and gas fields in Indonesia, the majority of which are mature, require more complex management and operation than newly discovered fields. Furthermore, new oil and gas fields are often located in remote areas or deep seas, necessitating complex handling and management. Similarly, gas field development requires certainty regarding gas sales contracts, necessitating macroeconomic considerations that are heavily influenced by the global economy.

This requires experts, professionals, and managers who are skilled at planning and implementing oil and gas recovery technologies and possess up-to-date knowledge of the macro environment to effectively manage the fields.

In addition to in-house training organized by the company where they work, it turns out that further understanding and knowledge related to the above problems are still needed. In order to meet the need for experts / professionals / managers, the Faculty of Earth and Energy Technology USAKTI established a Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program. When it was first established, the Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program was under the Postgraduate Program of Trisakti University. Then the Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program was under the Faculty of Earth and Energy Technology. The Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program was established in early 2009, based on Rector’s Decree No. 240 / USAKTI / SKR / 2009 dated August 31, 2009, retroactive to February 6, 2009. In 2013, the Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program received Accreditation Quality C with a score of 277 based on BAN-PT Decree No. 218/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/M/X/2013. Then in 2015, the Master of Petroleum Engineering Study Program received Accreditation Quality B with a score of 310 based on BAN-PT Decree No. 1263/SK/BANPT/Akred/M/XII/2015. Furthermore, in 2020, the Study Program received Accreditation Quality B with a score of 344 based on BAN-PT Decree No. 7678/SK/BANPT/Akred/M/XI/2020. In 2023, the study program received an EXCELLENT accreditation rating based on LAMTEKNIK Decree No. 0039/SK/LAMTeknik/AM/IV/2023. In 2025, the study program received an UNGGUL accreditation rating based on LAMTEKNIK Decree No. 0600/SK/LAMTeknik/AM/VIII/2025.
